deepnews reader

A daily overview of what is new across the feeds you follow, Substack first, in one page. Where you subscribe, it shows the full text; where you don't, the public teaser. Everything stays in your browser.

Install in one click

From the browser store, for Edge or Chrome on desktop. Both listings are in store review; a link that is not yet live opens the store page once review completes. Until then, the direct install below works.

Direct install

Works today on Edge and Chrome, and is the developer build for anyone working on the reader: the zip is exactly what is submitted to the stores. Takes about a minute. The download is served from Realizer Labs, the studio behind deepnews: accept the terms there and the link is emailed to you.

Get deepnews-reader.zip from Realizer Labs
  1. Open the emailed link and unzip the download into a folder you will keep, for example Documents\deepnews-reader. The browser reads the extension from that folder, so do not delete it afterwards.
  2. Open edge://extensions in Edge, or chrome://extensions in Chrome, and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked and choose that folder. The file picker shows folders only, so it will look empty inside: select it anyway.
  4. Click the extension's icon in the toolbar. If you are signed in to Substack in this browser, every publication you subscribe to is added and read straight away; otherwise the page asks you to sign in. Search for any other author and click Add: a free subscription is taken out for you if you do not have one.
  5. Posts refresh every hour. Where you are a paid subscriber, they show as full text; elsewhere, the public teaser.
