Arsenal's summer transfer targets and signings

Arsenal entered the summer window as Premier League champions with an ambitious shortlist of more than 20 players, including targets at Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham, but their close season ended with a sense of unfulfillment among some supporters. Their headline signing was Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle for £75m, secured after considering alternatives like Sandro Tonali (who joined Spurs for a minimum £92m), Alex Scott, Elliot Anderson (who joined Manchester City) and Amadou Onana (ruled out after a serious knee injury). Sporting director Andrea Berta used his relationship with Guimaraes' representatives to push the deal through, with manager Mikel Arteta backing the move to strengthen his starting XI.
