Ahead of England's friendly against world champions Spain on Saturday, Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon argued that England should stop trying to copy Spain's possession-based style, saying controlling games "is not in the English DNA." He said England have their own strengths and should play to them rather than imitate a nation whose players "lack the things that we have and vice versa." Gordon, who was substituted before England conceded a stoppage-time winner in their World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina, said the defeat left a "scar" that could ultimately help England win future tournaments if they change approach.
