Kylian Mbappe has revealed he nearly signed for Liverpool in 2016 at age 18 while playing for Monaco, saying his mother favoured the move and even visited Anfield, where she "fell in love" with the club. Mbappe said he chose against her wishes to join PSG instead, wanting to prove himself in his home city of Paris first. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp separately described the lengths the club went to woo Mbappe, including flying the family on a private jet from Nice, though the effort ultimately failed. Mbappe joined PSG, later moving to Real Madrid in 2024 after seven years and a club scoring record in Paris.
