F1’s 2030 V8 engine: What we know about the next power unit rules

F1's next engine rules cycle, set for 2030, is being shaped through discussions at the Power Unit Advisory Committee, with concrete plans possibly revealed before this season ends. Current 2026 rules created a near 50/50 split between the ICE and MGU-K hybrid output, but this caused unpopular energy-harvesting driving behaviours, prompting a gradual shift back toward the thermal engine: 58/42 in 2027, and 60/40 for 2028 and 2029. Once PUAC settles on a pathway for the 2030 rules, it will go to the F1 Commission for a vote, though that pathway isn't yet finalized; two of the five current manufacturers, including Audi, addressed the topic in Baku.
