Where McLaren's been brutal with big F1 body package change

McLaren introduced a largely new body package for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, featuring redesigned sidepods, sidepod intakes, engine cover and airbox intake/rollover bar fairing profile. The sidepod radiator intake change is described as a fairly brutal, bodged-on-looking blanking panel, notable because that section incorporates the side-impact structure bonded to the survival cell, making such changes difficult and costly under the budget cap. The revised intake position alters airflow from further upstream, allowing the front wing to be loaded up without affecting cooling as much, and has enabled McLaren to revise its unseen cooling system, likely moving radiator cores forward and inducing more downwash earlier. The change also permitted revisions to the outlet louvres and a shift in the airbox intake shape from elliptical to triangular, both aimed at optimizing cooling requirements for Baku's high-speed circuit.
