STAT News reported that although 98% of nearly 750,000 participants in NIH's All of Us Research Program agreed to share electronic health records, over 300,000 participants still have no EHR data in the database. The program's latest data release aims to address this by leveraging existing clinical data-sharing networks that hospitals use to exchange records between health systems. The piece notes this reflects progress made over the past decade on health data interoperability, including the 21st Century Cures Act's information-blocking rules and required FHIR APIs, which have made patients willing to share data and connected the underlying infrastructure, even as gaps like this one remain.
