Change Champions: King County Play Equity Coalition works to make play accessible for all

The Seattle Sounders, in partnership with Boeing, honored the King County Play Equity Coalition through their "Change Champions" initiative before the August 29 match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The coalition, a network of about 140 organizations, works to ensure all kids can access play regardless of zip code, gender, race, creed, or color, with particular focus on underserved groups like girls, trans and non-binary youth, youth with disabilities, and refugee/immigrant youth. According to the coalition's 2019 state of play report, disparities in physical education access, sports programming language, and infrastructure—especially in South King County—contribute to only 23% of King County youth meeting recommended daily physical activity levels.
