FC Dallas' 2016 Open Cup title anniversary

Ten years ago, on Sept. 13, 2016, FC Dallas won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, its first major trophy in nearly two decades and first since rebranding from the Dallas Burn. The title carried extra meaning since the tournament, founded in 1914, has been named for club patriarch Lamar Hunt since 1999. Under head coach Oscar Pareja, Dallas survived several close calls en route to the final, including a penalty-shootout win over Oklahoma City Energy, an extra-time victory over Colorado, a late Fabian Castillo goal against Houston, and a dramatic extra-time comeback against the LA Galaxy in the semifinal, when goals from Matt Hedges and Victor Ulloa off Mauro Díaz corners erased a late deficit.
