Right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos detained by ICE

British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, 41, a former Breitbart editor and one-time aide to both Kanye West's presidential bid and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, was detained by ICE on August 27 at New Orleans' Louis Armstrong airport, where he had arrived for a Ye concert, and deported to the UK by August 29-30. The Department of Homeland Security said he had overstayed his visa after entering the US in May 2019 and had a final removal order issued in July after he failed to appear at his immigration hearing; DHS called on other undocumented migrants to "self-deport now," saying Yiannopoulos would never be allowed to return. The detention carried an ironic edge: Yiannopoulos, an early Trump supporter who has repeatedly cheered aggressive ICE enforcement and called for deporting "millions and millions of people," had more recently turned critic of Trump, accusing him in March of having "lost his way, bought off by foreign interests."

Far-right activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer, a longtime rival of Yiannopoulos who has accused him of inciting violence against her, publicly took credit for reporting him to ICE and the FBI, calling his removal "a great day for America." Yiannopoulos, known for controversial commentary on Islam, feminism, and LGBT issues (he identifies as an "ex-gay") and for a 2017 scandal over remarks perceived as condoning pedophilia that got him dropped from CPAC and forced his resignation from Breitbart, had more recently founded a Los Angeles talent-management firm, Tarantula, representing clients including Trump, Ye and Martin Shkreli.
