'It's disappointing': Americans react to record high Labor Day fuel prices

US gasoline prices hit a record high for Labor Day weekend 2026, with the national average climbing to $4.15 per gallon -- the first time prices have topped $4 on the holiday, according to the American Automobile Association. The price remained below the all-time national record of $5.02 per gallon set in June 2022. Diesel also hit a record national average of $5.85 per gallon on the Friday before the holiday, rising a further 5 cents by Monday, AAA reported.
