French train derailment investigation

A regional passenger train carrying roughly 180-186 people derailed near the town of Cleon in Normandy, close to a Renault factory south of Rouen, on the evening of September 11 while traveling between Rouen and Caen, injuring 44 people, one critically. An 18-year-old woman was airlifted to Rouen University Hospital in critical condition. French authorities activated a mass-casualty response involving well over a hundred firefighters, medical teams and vehicles, and rail operator SNCF reported major disruptions with replacement buses arranged for the affected route. Several train carriages overturned in the crash.
