Israeli minister's threat to filmmakers over Gaza documentary
Israel's culture minister, Miki Zohar, said he would seek to strip the citizenship of Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the Israeli co-directors of the documentary Naza, after it won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival and received a 25-minute standing ovation at its premiere. Naza (named for a Hebrew military acronym meaning collateral damage) draws on testimony from roughly two dozen unidentified Israeli military and intelligence officers describing AI-assisted targeting systems used in the Gaza campaign; one interviewee alleges sign-off for a strike expected to kill 500 people to reach a single target, a claim the Israeli military called false. Zohar called the film 'vile,' accused its makers of treason, and asked Israel's interior ministry to investigate how the material was obtained and whether releasing it aided an enemy in wartime -- while acknowledging the citizenship-revocation power under Israeli law has almost never been used.
