UN Security Council meeting on artificial intelligence
The UN Security Council will hold a dedicated meeting on artificial intelligence during the upcoming General Assembly session, when France holds the council's rotating presidency, a French diplomatic source said. Officials described AI as set to dominate the diplomatic agenda from two angles: the technology's potential 'existential threat' to global security and specific risks it poses to children. The announcement came as UN human rights chief Volker Turk urged governments and leading AI developers to act urgently, warning the technology carries 'unprecedented risks.'
