The 2026 Emmy Awards
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, held September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, featured emotional tributes to entertainment figures who died in the preceding year: Sally Field honored her 'Steel Magnolias' co-star Dolly Parton, who died August 25 at 80 after a brief cancer battle, calling her 'genuine, and humble, supportive and blisteringly funny,' after which Reba McEntire performed Parton's 1983 song 'Appalachian Memories.' Jamie Lee Curtis, backed by Noah Kahan performing 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' remembered director Rob Reiner, who died in December alongside his wife Michele Singer Reiner (their son Nick Reiner was indicted last month on two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances); Reiner posthumously won an Emmy for his guest role in 'The Bear' at the preceding Creative Arts Emmys. Macaulay Culkin, joined by 'Schitt's Creek' co-stars Dan Levy and Annie Murphy, honored Catherine O'Hara, who died in January at 71, with Culkin calling her 'all our mom' and urging viewers to 'call your mother tonight.' The broader In Memoriam segment also honored James Van Der Beek, Ted Turner, Eric Dane and Diane Ladd, among others.
