Social media restrictions for children

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in her state of the union address on Wednesday that the EU will move to ban social media for children under 13 and bar personal accounts under 15, with 13- and 14-year-olds allowed only parentally supervised "mini accounts" with limited features and a cap of one hour a day. A Kids Act to be proposed by the Commission on Thursday would reverse the burden of proof, requiring platforms to show they are safe for minors. "It is us who decide the rules, not Big Tech," she said.
