ICE officer charged in Minneapolis shooting
Minnesota authorities arrested ICE officer Christian Castro in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday on an outstanding state warrant charging him with assault and false reporting, after Castro allegedly shot and wounded 24-year-old Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis through the front door of a Minneapolis home in January during the federal Operation Metro Surge immigration crackdown, then falsely told investigators he had been attacked with a broom handle and snow shovel before firing. Castro also faces separate federal charges of making false statements to investigators over the same shooting \u2014 the Justice Department's first prosecution of a federal officer over conduct during the operation, which brought thousands of agents to the Twin Cities and included the fatal shootings of two US citizens by federal officers.
