Attack on Ilhan Omar
Anthony James Kazmierczak, 55, was sentenced to 14 months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a federal officer for spraying Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar with a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar from a syringe during a January 27 town hall in her Minneapolis district. He was also given three years of supervised release with no contact with Omar. US District Judge Joan N. Ericksen told him at sentencing that he had bought tickets to the event weeks in advance, calling the attack premeditated rather than a spontaneous political statement, and said spraying an elected official 'is a terrifying thing, and you knew that when you did it.'
