AI risk warnings and Washington's response
Warnings from inside the AI labs have grown sharper. Bilal Chughtai, who resigned from Google DeepMind in July after working on AGI safety and alignment, said he had become 'extremely concerned by the default trajectory of this technology' after witnessing its development first hand, that AI 'has the potential to kill us' and that 'we might be running out of time to avoid' it. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon said earlier this month that 'people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade'.
