Trump's ICE director nomination withdrawn
The White House has withdrawn former Oklahoma state trooper Lance Schroyer's stalled nomination to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the administration's own nominations list. Trump announced Schroyer's nomination in June at the recommendation of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, who had called Schroyer, a former member of his Senate security detail, a 'good friend.' The nomination had stalled in the Senate, where Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul - who has a contentious history with Mullin - had not scheduled a confirmation hearing, and immigration hardliners and some DHS officials had questioned Schroyer's lack of experience leading a large agency or working in immigration enforcement. It is unclear why the withdrawal came now; ICE has not had a Senate-confirmed director since the Obama administration.
