Oxford football club's United 93 shirt controversy
English League One club Oxford United has apologised and withdrawn a new clothing line after it printed 'United 93' on the back of a shirt - intended as a reference to the club's 1893 founding year, but also the call sign of the plane hijacked and crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania during the September 11, 2001 attacks. The club said the range was released 'without understanding of the historical context and associations,' had been pulled from sale immediately, and that it was reviewing its approval process 'to ensure nothing like this happens again.'
