Cuba's widespread power outages

Cuba's national electricity grid suffered a 'total disconnection' just before 2pm local time on Friday, the energy ministry said, plunging millions across the island into darkness in at least the sixth partial or total blackout this year. Grid operator UNE blamed a transmission fault combined with poor weather in central Cuba, and said power had been restored by late evening to priority areas only, including those near hospitals and water pumping stations in Havana.
