The Charlie Kirk assassination

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot dead on 10 September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University, and the accused assassin still faces a potential death penalty after a judge's ruling. An independent review has now found security shortcomings at the campus, saying the university did not carry out a proper written security assessment and deferred key decisions to Turning Point USA. Kirk's family has alleged stunning failures by Utah officials led to the shooting. The anniversary has also brought controversy, including a defaced Kirk statue at Turning Point USA headquarters and student 'Kirkiversary' events.
