Attack on Australian MP Helen Haines

Independent MP Helen Haines is in improving condition in hospital after losing both legs in a deliberate car attack outside her constituency office in Wangaratta, Victoria. A 43-year-old man from Tarrawingee has been charged over the incident, which police have called targeted after finding a knife in his vehicle. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the attacker's car made a U-turn before striking Haines, and counter-terrorism police are assisting the investigation.
