The Philippines ferry fire

Forensic identification of victims -- many burned beyond recognition -- was expected to take weeks or months, Philippine National Police specialist Richard Allan Mangalip said on September 14, with families asked to provide personal effects or DNA samples to aid identification. The disaster added to a long history of deadly ferry accidents in the Philippines, an archipelago nation of more than 7,600 islands where millions depend on ferries for inter-island travel.
