Flydubai flight diverted after pilot incident
UAE authorities continue investigating how Flydubai co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami, a 29-year-old Omani national, plotted a 9/11-inspired suicide attack on a September 30 Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight. Prosecutors say he intended to kill the Indian captain and crash the aircraft into Ben Gurion Airport, a plot thwarted when the captain fled the cockpit and passengers subdued al-Hammami before reserve pilots landed the plane safely in Saudi Arabia. UAE officials state al-Hammami underwent a "drift towards extremism and terrorism" while living in Australia, and a Melbourne Islamic leader named in connection with that period has publicly denied any link to him or the plot.
