October 7 anniversary and Israeli security concerns

Israel marked the third anniversary of the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack amid continued military strikes on Gaza and a heated election-season political debate, with Netanyahu having politically withstood the fallout from an assault that killed roughly 1,200 people and saw 251 taken hostage. The parents of victim Aner Shapira said their grief remains undiminished, while commentators pointed to the resilience of Israel's economy after three years of war. French Foreign Minister condemned the "poison" of anti-Semitism amid international commemorations, even as New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani used the anniversary to issue a broad critique of Israeli and US policy.
