OpenAI office recording device case
A Saudi national employed as an engineer at OpenAI faces federal charges after FBI agents arrested him for allegedly planting a hidden, sophisticated recording device in the company's San Francisco office. Investigators allege he used his wife's ChatGPT account to help plan the device's placement, and that it was concealed using ordinary office items, including toilet paper. OpenAI staff discovered the device and used the company's own AI tools to analyze how it functioned and was hidden. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or stated who, if anyone, was meant to receive the recordings.
