Alberta separation referendum
Albertans voted decisively against proceeding toward an independence referendum, rejecting separatist organizers' push over grievances about federal energy and equalization policies. The ballot had asked only whether a future secession vote should be held, not on independence itself. Prime Minister Mark Carney called it "a great result for Canada," and analysts say the outcome strengthens his standing both domestically and in dealings with US President Trump.
