Francis Halzen's Nobel Prize in Physics
Francis Halzen has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics. He was recognized for his work using a telescope embedded in Antarctic ice to detect neutrinos, subatomic particles sometimes called "ghost particles" or "ghostly messengers" from outer space because they rarely interact with matter. The detector, built into deep ice at the South Pole, captures faint flashes of light produced when these particles occasionally collide with ice molecules.
